devo tradurre un testo dall'italiano all'inglese, sono alle prime armi, ho le conoscenze del liceo intendo.

Anversa si ritrovò preso al centro di dispute tra potestanti e cattolici: al termine di sanguinosi scontri, tra gli spagnoli ( signori dei paesi bassi) e i principi protestanti, questi ultimi lasciarono la città, insieme alle migliori menti commerciali e intellettuali della città. Dal punto di vista economico fu un disastro. La città si riprese solo mezzo secolo dopo e diede vita a un incredibile scuola artistica, specialmente pitorica da cui uscirono figure importantissime quali Rubens, Van Dyck e Jordaens.

Questa la mia traduzione:

Antwerp was early the centre of conflicts between Protestants and Catholics: at the end of bloody fights between the Spanish (lords of the Netherlands) and the Protestant princes, the last ones abandoned the town together with the best business and intellectual minds of the city. Economically, it was a disaster. The city only recovered after half a century and gave rise to an extraordinary artistic school, pictorial in particular, from which important figures like Rubens, Van Dyck and Jordaens came out of.

ho messo sottolineate le parti che non so se vanno bene.

in un altro pezzo si parla di un fiume che

"rimase chiuso al taffico. Giuseppe II provò a liberare il corso del fiume senza successo. Sotto l'occupazione francese, si riuscì a sboccare il fiume , anche se si dovette attendere la fine delle guerre napoleoniche per riusarlo"

non capisco cosa intenda per sboccare il fiume, io ho messo " the river was cleared but it was necessary to wait the end of the Napoleonic Wars to use it again"

La traduzione è tremenda, troppo letterale: "questi ultimi" non lo puoi tradurre in quel modo per dirne una. non ti preoccupare che domani saremo in tanti a dare una mano. notte

sul foglio italiano era scritto sboccare infatti non capivo, magari è un errore di battitura.

un altro pezzo diceva: "da allora, se si escludono le due guerre mondiali, Anversa ha assistito a un costante e duraturo progresso economico, scoiale e culturale, culminato nel 1993 quando la città è stata nominata capitale culturale d'Europa.

L'ho reso con:

Since that time, not considering the World Wars, Antwerp has had a continuous and lasting econimic, social and cultural progress, which reached its pick in 1993 when the city was elected an European Capital of Culture.

il present perfect è corretto ? Io sapevo che si usava, insieme al p.p continuous per parlare di un'azione iniziata nel passato che dura ancora nel presente.
Per culminare avevo usato ended ma il significato non era lo stesso, il progresso non è finito nel 1993 ma ha avuto lì il suo picco.

In teoria potrebbe anche essere che fosse la foce ad esser bloccata, o magari venne deviato, quindi si riusci a farlo sboccare ovunque fosse che finisse originariamente, onestamente fa cagare... la traduzione cleared va benissimo.

Sono d'accordo con voi che è troppo letterale e dovrei farla più libera ma volevo capire in quello che ho scritto cosa è corretto e cosa no
