[XBOX ONE] - Le avventure del Crocettato Scatolo Uno

VI posto un paio di robe Random riguardanti Icsbocsuan che sono abbastanza fantalol, specialmente quelle tecniche se confermate:

Riguardo la Tech:

1) Stanno downclockando di brutto la GPU (edito con un quote visto che ormai la news comincia a spargersi)

perche' hanno dei problemi enormi visto che l'hardware non era finalizzato, fonti abbastanza sicure su Gaf, Gfaqs e un paio di miei amici su FB (2 devs e un giornalista) dicono che l'xbox one era previsto per il lancio nel 2014 ma dopo la conferenza a sorpresa di Sony e il reveal delle spec tecniche, M$ ha rushato di brutto e ha messo su una roba che tutt'ora non ha nemmeno un os o un hardware che non si possa considerare in alpha stage.

(A parer mio tutto questo e' molto-molto-molto plausibilerrimo visto anche solo il bellissimo design stile BetaMax che mi dice appunto "oh...non sapevamo cosa cazzo inventarci e "quadrato" è la prima roba che ci e' venuta in mente")

C'e' un video interessante su Wired (post conferenza microsoft) in cui dimostrano un paio di funzionalità....l'os non ha NULLA a che vedere con quello della conferenza e lagga che dio solo lo sa....in breve: TUTTO quello che han fatto vedere alla conferenza era un fake mostruoso e la rete non sta perdonando.

1-Bis) Pare che non vada a 1080p nativi ma si siano inventati il "900p", la fonte di questo punto non è "iperconosciuta" pero' un paio di robe le aveva gia' dette in passato senza failare. (Gaming)

Riguardo la Privacy:

2) Alcuni paesi (tra cui Germania e Australia) stanno discutendo sul bandire o meno la vendita dell' xbox one o obbligarne una versione "diversa" sui loro mercati per problemi di privacy (Always-on + telecamera + microfono = no buono. Questo il succo)

Of course, Microsoft aren’t likely to fuel the fires anymore without careful consideration, but clarification’s needed on just what the Kinect is doing with that microphone array whilst it’s waiting for that all important “Xbox On!” command.

Riguardo ai Media:

2-Bis) Questa e' fantastica e riguarda sempre la privacy + raccolta di info random: è stato trovato un patent riguardante XboxOne che parla di come si piglino degli "achievements" anche guardando la tv...tu guardi il tal programma o la tale pubblicità N volte e ti pigli i trofei....mi sono cappottato dalla sedia quando l'ho letto.

4) Dulcis in fundo: Ieri microsoft ha cancellato, senza spiegazioni, la classica conferenza POST E3 riservata alla stampa, quella dove si risponde alle domande insomma.

Ce ne sono altre 6mila in rete, ma queste erano le piu' lol che ho letto, enjoy.

P.S. Tra parentesi, è la prima volta che vedo letteralmente scomparire così tanti articoli dai siti di VG in tempo record....tra gli esempi illustri c'e' anche un video di GameTrailers che dettagliava alcuni aspetti del nuovo botolo ed e' svanito nel giro di 20 minuti....spero che salti fuori da qualche parte.

Basically they create a large circular silicon wafer and put the conducting pathways for the (processor or memory) chip on it. (http://www.geek.com/chips/from-sand-...s-made-832492/ if you want to know how it works)

On one of these wafers they can fit many chips which they then cut out (like baking a pizza and cutting it into identical slices)

There will however be defects on the wafer, the chips that occupy the areas that have the defects on them are either useless or can be used as lower end parts by disabling part of the chip
(like if a gpu has 18 compute units you could only use 16 if the defect is on one of the others, ps4 already does this by only using 18 out of 20 cus so they can have two for redundancy to improve yields)

Not all of them come out as well as the others and some can handle more voltage than others, so they can be higher clocked.

Now the problem is that when you have really large chips.
The larger the chip the bigger the chance that each chip will have a defect. (exponentially much so)
If you have 10 defects on your wafer but you fit 100 small dies on the wafer then only at most 10 , so ten percent, will be throwaway or salvaged as low end part, but if you only fit 10 on there then it's likely that many of them may have one of those defects.
You could easily have to throw away 30-50 percent or even all of them.

Xbox one uses APU which is a really big die that needs to house the cpu, gpu AND in xbox one's case also the ESRAM which takes up a huge amount of transistors and therefor physical space on the chip.
They end up with little hardware power yet a huge (5 billion transistor) die, so they have low yields.
Normally low end hardware only takes a tiny little die so yields are good, but for some reason that either MS engineers or suits/beancounters can only know they decided to go for this huge ass APU with esram.

Il fail più grande qui è l'oggettiva "arroganza" corporativa della M$. Sono usciti con la 360 in largo anticipo sulla concorrenza, proprio per penetrare fortemente il mercato, nonostante gli enormi difetti e tutto ci sono largamente riusciti, e non hanno pensato a battere sul tempo anche a sto giro la Sony dopo tutti questi anni? Imbecilli totali.

In effetti pare proprio che stiano mettendo insieme un fail appresso all'altro...

Peccato, alla fine penso che l'attuale gen abbia solamente tratto giovamento dalla "competitività" che si è creata tra X360 e PS3, dovesse ritornare il tutto a un monopolio (o quasi) Sony non penso sarebbe una cosa positiva (Nintendo non la calcolo perchè imho ha un target piuttosto diverso)

Vedremo.

si vabè però con tutti i soldi che c'hanno figurati se non riescono ad uscirne, e poi cmq queste so tutte cose che alla massa fregano meno di zero.

Di sicuro M$ a livello di comunicazione/conferenze/marketing sta facendo abbastanza merda.
