Directions for new players

In order to play City of Heroes, you must first have a PlayNC master account and then a City of Heroes game account under that master account. If you are a returning City of Heroes player and want to create a new game account, you can skip directly down to the “To Add a City of Heroes Game Account ONLY” directions below).

To Create a PlayNC Master Account and CoH Game Account Together:

1. Visit http://www.plaync.com
2. Click on “Account” in the navigation bar on the left side of the page
3. Click on either the “Join” or “Create” link
4. Follow all the directions provided until your PlayNC master account is successfully created.
5. Upon completion of your master account, click on the “ADD GAMES TO YOUR PlayNC ACCOUNT now!” link in the middle of the page.
6. Enter the serial code provided above in this email for 14 FREE days of game play and then hit the “ADD” button
7. Provide all requested information until you have successfully created a City of Heroes game account!

To Add a City of Heroes Game Account ONLY:

1. Visit http://www.plaync.com
2. Click on “Account” in the navigation bar on the left side of the page
3. Click on the “Add Game” link
4. Enter information to verify your current PlayNC master account name and password
5. Enter the serial code provided above in this email for 14 FREE days of game play and then hit the “ADD” button
6. Provide all requested information until you have successfully created a City of Heroes game account!

***Please note: A CoH Game Account requires an approved credit card or 60 day City of Heroes game time card code to activate.

Downloading City of Heroes:

Please be certain to follow the below instructions exactly. To download the City of Heroes client, please follow these steps:

1. Open an Internet Explorer browser and type in this URL: ftp://client.coh.com/US/
2. At this point, you should see several separate CoH .zip files (If you are having a problem and don’t see the zips, we recommend that you use passive FTP. You can do this by following these steps:
* Open Internet Explorer
* Open the Tools menu and choose Internet Options
* Choose the Advanced tab and make sure that Use Passive FTP is selected.)
3. Double click on the CohUpdater.zip (310 KB) file, and save it to a location where you will be able to easily access it.
4. When the download has completed (this could take several minutes), double click on the downloaded file. If you have a utility installed, such as WinZip or WinRAR, it should unzip the file for you. If not, Windows has a built in compression utility, called DriveSpace, that will perform the same function.
5. Extract the file CohUpdater.exe in the archive to your desktop.
6. Once the file is extracted, run the file by double clicking it. This file will install components that will guide you through the rest of the setup process.
