Yoichi Wada, CEO of Square Enix, the largest creator of role playing games in the Industry, has recently been interviewed by the Financial Times about his thoughts on the world of gaming at the moment and what platforms will thrive. In the article he pointed out how both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are not suited for the current marketplace, with handheld gaming the way forward for now due to a large change in the demographics of gamers over the last few years. This has led to a change in strategy at many companies, Square Enix included as it has already revealed its next main entry into the Dragon Quest RPG series will in fact come to Nintendo DS:
“There is a new breed of gamers in the market – we have to make games for all kinds of people. In the old days, we could just focus on the PlayStation or the GameBoy, but the environment has changed completely. We chose the Nintendo DS because the widest array of people use it, including people who previously did not play games before.”
