Sorry for the delay.
The server was the target of a DDoS attack and because of this the IP has been blocked for 12 hours.

ahhahahhahhhaha ma veramente.... hanno la sfiga che lavoro in Security e so' come un DDoS funziona e che il loro "efficace" metodo anti DDoS e' na merda..... piu' tardi provo a vedere altre offerte hosting *tipo playrust e stasera faccio backup + transfer
edit: mo poi da lavoro gli scrivo una bella mail spiegandogli come un DDoS attack funziona e come sono cazzate, dato che non puoi tirare giu' un server in 2 secondi (sopratutto una porta specifica di un server dato che viene fatto su random ports in caso di UDP flooding) e che non si e' verificata lag o high resource prima del fantomatico attacco....
non hanno protezione alcuna e il loro problema e' che secondo me a random tirano giu' dei server per overload delle virtual machine...
dopo avergli fatto la spiegazione voglio vedere i log relativi a questo fantastico DDoS attack e comunque cerco altro host...

The following is nothing against you, that i know that you are just a Customer Service Representative.
I am Team Lead for a market leader Security company vendor and i know exactly how a DDoS Attack looks like and how to prevent it.
Unfortunately seems that Nitrous Networks does not have any sort of plan for this kind of attacks and i really doubt that this was the real reason behind the actual status of the server (Still down after 12 hours opposite to what declared on previous update).
If Nitrous Networks does not have the infrastructure to maintain and ensure a stable service level (i think this issue is more related to Virtual Machine. Most probably you are now trying to restore it and get the latest backup available), then you should consider to either upgrade the infrastructure or limit the amount of servers that can be rent by customers.
More over if a DDoS attack is given as "template" solution, i would suggest to at least provide which kind of DDoS attack and logs related to it (it is not so difficult to create some "fake" DDoS attack logs).
I am already looking for another host and this was just a constructive update for you.

guarda dopo 21 ore di servizio down mi sa' veramente che faccio prima a far restartare il server in altro host da 0 e in caso dare per 2/3 giorni un starter kit aggiuntivo con qualche roba
