Characters
Adol Christin: An adventurer of rare talent; he left behind over a hundred journals of his exploits which have been studied extensively by historians. While venturing into the Sea of Trees in Celceta, something happened to cause him to lose his memory. He returns to the depths of the forest with Duren in order to learn what caused his condition and to recover his past.
Karna: A bright and cheerful girl who lives in the treetop commune of Komodo within the Sea of Trees. Because of the dangers of living in the forest however she can also be strict and unforgiving at times. Despite being a girl she is greatly respected by Komodo's inhabitants as a first-class hunter and warrior, but one who often worries about others as well.
Duren: A man who works as an information broker in Kasnan who seems to have met Adol in the town bar prior to his memory loss. While he has a wild nature he's also the type who can't stand to leave people in trouble if he can help them.

Sea of Trees: A vast woodland located in a Romun province in northeast Ispani. The forest growth is so thick that travellers quickly lose their way after setting foot in its green depths. Furthermore, fierce monsters inhabit the forest in large numbers so few who set foot in the Sea of Trees return. It is known to Europans as a forbidden area and even the citizens of Kasnan fear to enter it. As a result, even today maps of the region are largely empty.
World
Provincial Border Town of Kasnan: A province of Romn located in eastern Ispani. Several years ago the Empire expanded its reach into the region, bringing strife with it. The military established a camp in the region to secure its position. The Romuns granted the region a degree of provincial autonomy and self-governance. As a result, anti-Romun sentiment is fairly low. A new governor is arriving from Romn to ensure the continued security of the region but has been delayed due to internal conditions in the Empire.
System
Story Explanation: An all-new Action RPG in which the player journeys together with Adol Christin on a quest to recover his sealed memories. The red-haired wanderer is joined by many companions on his journey into the Sea of Trees in the savage and unexplored land of Celceta. Over the course of the adventure, Adol's lost memories and the mysteries of the ancient civilization of Celceta will slowly be revealed.
Basic System: Simple yet deep, speedy and exciting party battles! With the press of a single button, impressive attacks can be unleashed. With the touchscreen one can manage one's party and direct companions. Both the immersiveness and the sense of tactical complexity have increased from previous games. Enjoy the rush from defeating giant foes!
Evolved Action: Flash, Evasion, Cooperation and Skills! New skills in the Flash System are learned automatically during the game. With the right timing, you can execute an evasive skill called Flash Move that slows the enemies down. The new Aerial Combo can be used to strike floating enemies. These and other new options add to the tactical repertoire of the player.
A Vast World: As a first for the Ys Series, this game includes realtime changes to the environment, with the Sea of Trees experiencing a distinct cycle of morning, noon, evening and night. Celceta is the most immersive environment yet seen, with three-dimensional effects and sound to draw you into the action, from the noise of the foliage in the Sea of Trees to the roar of a mighty waterfall.
Additional Features: The game is full of extra elements. By gathering the necessary raw materials, the native weapons of Celceta can be strengthened and their parameters improved. Temper the mightiest weapons with your own hands! The game is loaded with fun features like item synthesis and mini-quests.
